The three mains types of food groups that our body requires are carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Our body uses these foods for maintenance, healing, and repair of tissues and organs.
It’s important to stay away from fatty foods such as fried foods, lots of red meat, deserts, processed foods, and refined carbs (white bread, pastries, pasta, rice). These build up the cholesterol levels in your blood, risking heart disease. It also cause diabetes and weight gain.
Instead eat healthy fats. As our body requires fats, we can get these healthy fats from plants. Plant oils such as olive oil, sesame oil, and coconut oil contain high amount of calories, but are good for your health and body. Avocados are a rich source of healthy fat. Nuts are good for the body in so many ways, and provide a great source of fat for the body.
For Carbohydrates, Its important to replace foods such as pasta, white rice, white bread, and other refined carbs with whole grain foods. Eating whole grain foods, prevent the risk of many diseases, and provide the body with proper nutrients. Examples of whole grains are: oatmeal, whole grain bread, brown bread, barley, and buckwheat.
For Protein: I usually stick to plant based protein and small amounts of animal protein for my own health. But all protein is good in moderation. I would recommend more of chicken and fish, as those have a high amount of nutrients and less fat compared to other meats such as pork, and beef.
